One of the things I love about life on the farm is the ever-changing seasons. Life is NEVER boring! The winter season is usually full of evaluating the previous growing season and planning toward next year; ordering seed and strawberry plants; canning; and a whole list of “honey-do” projects that Farmer James doesn’t have time for the rest of the year.
This year, we’ve had the opportunity to expand our maple operation by adding pipeline to a bush that we have previously only had buckets in. Pipeline makes sap collection much more efficient, but it is NOT simple to set up! We had some assistance to plan the layout and begin to set up the “mainline” in early December. Since then, we’ve worked at completing the project ourselves with the hopes of having it operational by the time maple season 2025 rolls around. We’ve still got some work to do, but every opportunity to get to the bush and put in a couple more hours of work feels like a victory.

Many school groups have already booked their classes for a trip to our farm. Their visit includes a wagon ride to the sugar bush, a short guided tour along our trail, a stick of pure maple taffy, a guided tour of our evaporator and of course a delicious pancake with pure maple syrup.
Suitable for all ages, our “Sweetest Smell on Earth” Immersive Maple Experience is a small group, hands on, 2 and a half hour experience that gives our guests the opportunity to engage in every step of the maple syrup making process.
